Update: Rainbow State of Affairs
The Rainbow project is going through an era of change. A new 2.0 Product is being worked on by several developers. Currently the next big steps as far as features go are MagicAjax and ASP.NET 2.0 Feature integration. The software currently compiles on ASP.NET 2.0 thanks to Eric Ramseur. Jon Minond is currently working on Ajax integration.
I am currently in the progress of understanding the status of the project and reorganizing it to make things smoother. Currently new web site maps have been proposed to better serve the "Customer". I am taking a very customer oriented approach to this project as any commercial business should do. This is an open source project, but that doesn't mean we have to be like the rest of the open source projects out there.
Rainbow HomeThe Rainbow Home site's purpose is to get the attention of Prospective Customers which include but are not limited to Designers, Developers, System Administrators, IT Directors, End Users, etc.. The front page will make the following possible.
One Click access to the latest installation file. One click access to why certain people should use Rainbow ( Designers, etc.. ). One Click access to Support. Basically, one click access will be provided to the most important things that people want. NO, there won't be a signup required like DNN. I don't believe in that B.S. People who want to download software should be able to without worrying about entering in details. If they like it enough after they are using it, they will come back and do their thing.
Rainbow Customer CenterThe Rainbow Customer Center is the place that existing users of Rainbow come to get news about the product, download updates,
learn new things that other users are doing, read through documentation, and get the most appropriate support available.
News feeds will be included from the developer blogs, latest documentation changes, latest commits, and support issues.
Rainbow Support Although the Rainbow support site is a subset of the Customer Center, it is more geared towards helping people solve the problems they are having rather than keeping the customer updated.
I am waiting on the Architects to produce an architeture diagram of the current code and the next step in evolution for Rainbow. We are not lacking in the ideas, only in the people needed to carry out these ideas to fruition. We have to start at the base and work our way slowly.
Currently the full force that we have is being pushed towards overhauling the current infrastructures. Sites, Documentation, Support. As always, we're always looking for talent to help us build this product.
