    Contribute to Rainbow project

I have tried to send a email about contribute to Rainbow but so far no answer.

So I post my email here to see if I get an answer:

    Hello!

My name is Henrik Norberg and I have been developing in ASP for over
8 years and have been developing a simular product as Rainbow in ASP.
But I have decided to go over to .NET and then I first found IBuySpy
portal, liked the ide but I think it is badly implemented.
Then I found DotNetNuke and I liked it but it lacked support for
    multiple languages and more.

Then I found Rainbow. But it lack a lot that I have implemented in my
own system. Then I saw about the next version and I finaly think I
have found what I have been looking for.

I'm interested in helping to develop the next version. I have
experience with .NET developing but I'm not a .NET developer to 100%
yet, but I will be soon...

The area that I think I could contribute in is primaly the core
development. In my own program I implemented a security system much
like windows security. And I also implemented
Globalization/Localization to some degree above what Rainbow today
    have.
I can also contribute some with translation for swedish.

I work today at a company called Bowling Event (BowlingEvent.com)
that is interested to put up a portal for the bowling world.
In that we have a need for mulitlanguage support and a VERY scalable
solution. If it goes as we think we will have a 7 figures of people
    using it.

We have contact with people all over the world that might be able to
    contribute in translating for us.

We as a company is interested in supporting Rainbow in the meaning
that I use my time to develop for Rainbow. I cant put down enormous
amount of time since we are in a stage of putting together a site.

I will also develop modules for Rainbow that we cant release (from
the start at least) for free since we plan to sell them in some form.

So what I want to know is what tools are required for developing?
SharpDevelop I hope... since it is free.

Let me know if you think that I can contribute to the project.

    Regards,
    Henrik Norberg.

    Re: Contribute to Rainbow project

    Henrik,
Of course you are more than welcome to contribute. I don't think that I have ever seen someone be turned away from Rainbow. It isn't just open source, it is an open community and anyone willing to put forth time is welcomed.

The best way for you to get started is to join the Sourceforge Rainbow-devel mailing list. This is the list that the regular contributors of the Rainbow project use to keep in touch and to notify the others with. It is a great resource.

    http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/rainbowportal-devel

I would highly suggest that you just start by introducing yourself, share a bit of your background and mention what you are interested in working with. Don't be the guy with all the answers pointing out everything that needs improvement. Instead, start out with one area you are interested in and state a plan for improving it.

It is a truely awesome community. I'm sure you will really enjoy it, I know I have.

As for tools required. It is beneficial to have visual studio so that you can update the solution files. Of course, you could probably find someone to help you out on that. Other than that, you just need an editor(notepad, sharp develop, web matrix, notepad, vi, etc), a compiler(visual studio or sdk), and a sql server/MSDE database that you can use.

Oh, there is the code freeze, you will hear about that when you post to the list :)

    Cheers

    Chris Farrell
